How to Become a Member

Persons wishing to become a member of the church may do so through one of the following ways:

  • Respond to the invitation extended after each sermon to salvation and membership. You will be asked to come forward to receive the right hand of fellowship from the Pastor.
  • Attend a Membership Inquiry seminar which will be offered every other month. This brief seminar will provide attendees an opportunity to have questions about the church answered and to make a commitment to salvation and or membership.

Benefits of Membership

  • Membership enables persons to join in with what God is doing through the vibrant, viable, vital fellowship of ACOG.
  • Membership allows the Pastoral team to assess your gifts and skills so that those gifts can be utilized in the ministries of the church. You must be a member to serve in leadership positions and in our core ministries.
  • Membership gives you access to
    • Infant Dedications
    • Spiritual Counseling
    • Pre-Marital Counseling
    • Wedding Services
    • Funeral Services, etc.

Expectations of Members

  • Be saved and daily practice the lifestyle of Christianity as taught by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
  • Be baptized (if you have not already done so) in obedience to the command of Jesus Christ (Acts 2:38).
  • Regularly attend one of the Sunday morning worship services and the Wednesday Night Praise and Worship Service.
  • Support the work of the church through their time, talents and treasure; giving at least the tithe as commanded by the Lord.
  • Attend a small group Bible Study weekly. Several opportunities are available on Sunday mornings and through the Neighborhood Connection Groups.
  • Demonstrate, through attitude and actions, a sincere desire to live in obedience to Christ (John 14:23) and submit to the spiritual authority and leadership of our pastor (Hebrews 13:17).
  • Know – Get involved in growth and learning beyond the worship services (Acts 2:42-47; II Peter 3:18).
  • Grow – Be a disciple, not just a convert or church member. This includes but is not limited to the following: Be baptized. Pray constantly. Read the scriptures daily (II Timothy 2:15).
  • Show – Demonstrate your love for Christ by living a Godly life. Let your light shine so that others will want to follow you to your place of worship. Actively work to invite others to Christ (Matthew 5:16).
  • Sow – The bible is clear, we reap what we sow (Galatians 6:7). You must sow blessing to reap blessing. Therefore, members should seek to sow into this ministry with…
        • TIME – Time actually means commitment. Spend time in worship and study. Since time is our most valuable commodity, when you sow your time in doing good, you will reap the good of your time.
        • TALENTS – Each member of the body of Christ has been given a spiritual gift (Ephesians 4:8) that is to be used in service and ministry. Learn yours and sow it.
        • TREASURE – Jesus said it best, “where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matthew 6:21). Follow giving patterns and you will find a person’s true heart. You cannot serve God and money. Choose God (Luke 16:13).
